Helping In Time Of Need

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, on April 22 Daytona Beach, Florida, Chapter 1048 1st Vice President Bob Adkins and a squad of chapter members—wearing masks and gloves—gathered at the local VFW parking lot to accept food donations from the Volusia County community. The food drive, the second in April, would benefit the residents of the Halifax Urban Ministries’ Barracks of Hope, which provides transitional housing for up to nine months to men and women veterans struggling with homelessness, addiction, and mental health. Barracks of Hope offers single-occupancy rooms, as well as mental health counseling, case management, and three meals per day. In 2019 it served 52 veterans and helped move 28 into permanent housing.

Also in April, the chapter helped fund a woodworking project at the Barracks.
