Ready to Learn

chapter 227/VASH

For the ninth consecutive year, the Dean K. Phillips Memorial Chapter 227 of Northern Virginia contributed gift cards to assist veterans and children of veterans in the VA Supportive Housing (VASH) Program with their back-to-school needs. Fifty-nine $75 gift cards were provided for VASH family children who are in school—and for the first time, four $100 gift cards were provided for VASH veterans in educational programs.

VASH is a joint effort between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the VA to help homeless veterans and their families into affordable and stable lodging. VA case managers serve more than a hundred veterans and their families in the Northern Virginia area. In December the chapter will give holiday gift cards to VASH families.

Chapter Vice President Len Ignatowski presented $4,825 worth of gift cards to VASH case managers (from left) Jasmine O. Wilson, Dinisha Johnson, and Ky’Neike King.
