Looking for anyone who knows anything about U.S.S. Coral Sea CVA-43. I was aboard Coral Sea from Feb. 1965 to March 1967, during a drop-off mission of a group of Green Berets into Cambodia in 1965. I have not been able to learn anything about it.

We went in very close and were even dead in the water once. We sent SEALS over the side to cut mine field nets. Sometime in the night we put nets over the side and unloaded our troops. I was told I could never find out anything about this because it was a CIA mission. Officers and crew of Coral Sea were given authorization after that mission to wear the Green Beret, optional to the white hat. We also did devastating air strikes into North Vietnam and Laos in 1965-67. Was this another CIA mission? We weren’t supposed to be doing anything in Laos at that time. I have documentation signed by Adm. Nimitz. We were also doing air strikes into Cambodia until 1970; another CIA mission?

The Coral Sea was a flagship with an admiral aboard, and we were always doing what we were not supposed to be doing in places we were not supposed to be. As of three years ago, I was told by a Naval archivist that I was one of fewer than one hundred still alive from 1967 who were on the Coral Sea.
