The VVA Fiscal Year 2025 Budget: All is Well

We are progressing through FY 2025 in our VVA budget, and all is well. We made significant changes in how we administer the budget, and those modifications are working well. All cost centers are within budget specifications, and our revenue streams are on target. We were able to distribute the dues rebates to all chapters and state councils using the funds set aside for these purposes.

However, we will need to examine how we provide financial assistance in FY 2026 because we don’t have sufficient funds in the Dues Rebate account to meet the distributions we have been making. We have other resources the Board of Directors can allocate if they decide to do so. Our Household Goods Program continues to be successful under the leadership of Quentin Butcher, and those funds are being distributed on schedule.

The Board of Directors recently approved a significant modification in the operation of our Veterans Benefits Department. The previous process involved an in-house staff who processed appeals. As part of a new methodology, we have instead initiated a contract with a law firm VVA has been using for some claims for several years, Bergmann and Moore, which is accredited by the VA. The firm submitted a plan to expedite the resolution of our claims and comply with VA requirements. The new arrangement will save VVA a significant amount of money and improve services to our membership.

The VVA leadership has had the opportunity to strengthen and improve our relationships with the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Veterans Voices of America (VVoA). These relationships will expand our services and influence. We live in an exciting time with increased enthusiasm and support for veterans issues.

At the National Leadership & Education Conference in Reno, I will be presenting a program for chapter and state council treasurers with the assistance of Deborah Johnson. I invite everyone to attend. The Conference schedule is full of pertinent and informative sessions. I will be available to you in Reno and welcome your comments and discussions. I am pleased to serve you as your National Treasurer and wish each of you a heartfelt, Welcome Home!
