AVVA's 25th Anniversary

The AVVA Board of Directors convened online in January for a concise session to address urgent matters ahead of our in-person meeting scheduled for April. A key topic of discussion was the forthcoming Leadership & Education Conference, which AVVA is shaping with enthusiasm. In addition to contributing to the conference’s educational seminars, we’re excited to commemorate our 25th anniversary, and will be distributing special memorabilia to all attendees.

This year, we’ve chosen “Horsemanship for Heroes” in Reno as our Project Friendship beneficiary. This commendable initiative enhances the mental well-being of veterans and their families through equine-assisted psychotherapy and learning. Our fundraising efforts officially kick off during the April Board meeting. Your generous support is crucial to our success.

AVVA is in the midst of our election period, running from January to June in even-numbered years, with chapter elections slated for April. This process, while straightforward, requires meticulous adherence to ensure your state and chapter’s representation at the 2025 National AVVA Convention.

We echo Malcolm X’s sentiment, “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today,” and encourage you to consider running for office. Detailed nomination information is available on www.avva.org.

We also invite nominations for our three annual awards: Member of the Year, Fellowship Award, and the Cathy Keister Spirit of Excellence Award, open until May 31. Winners, along with VISTA volunteer frontrunners, will be celebrated at our Awards Luncheon in Reno, though attendance is not required for recipients.

Our latest initiative, the American Flag Etiquette Booklet, developed with insights from the National Flag Foundation and esteemed contributors, is nearing completion. Our objective is to finalize printing the booklet by the April Board meeting, budget and printer timelines permitting.
