Marking 25 Years as VVA's Sister Organization

The National Board convened a virtual meeting in January to discuss urgent matters ahead of our spring session. In April, we will convene in Silver Spring to continue planning AVVA’s involvement in the 2024 National Leadership & Education Conference in Reno, as well as our 25th anniversary celebration. While our role is still shaping up, we are actively working to ensure a seamless and well-organized event.

January marked the beginning of state and chapter elections, a process that takes place from January through June in even-numbered years. The procedure is straightforward, but adherence to the rules is crucial.

This period presents an ideal opportunity to encourage younger members to assume chapter and state leadership roles as a way for them to embark on their paths to national leadership in AVVA. Detailed candidate job descriptions and election protocols are in Sections I and V of our Policies & Procedure Manual at www.avva.org

Delegates at the last Convention introduced the option for election by acclamation, streamlining the process. As Raymond Lindquist, the noted pastor and author, once said, “Courage is the power to let go of the familiar.” Do you, or someone you have mentored, possess the courage to become AVVA’s next chapter or state official? Our National Elections Committee is ready to help.

Let’s make the next Convention memorable by registering more delegates than ever. A reminder: Only chapters and states conducting 2024 elections are eligible to send delegates to the 2025 AVVA National Convention.

It’s also time to nominate individuals for AVVA’s three prestigious recognition awards, which honor the dedication and work of our members. Begin considering nominees for the 2024 Member of the Year, the Fellowship Award, and the Cathy Keister Spirit of Excellence Award. Recipients will be announced at the AVVA Awards Luncheon in Reno. VISTA volunteer leaders will also be acknowledged for their service at the event.

On behalf of the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America, I extend our gratitude for your continued support.
