AMPUTEE REHAB: This issue of The VVA Veteran features a series of four articles illustrating the incredible breakthroughs being made in the design and manufacture of prosthetic limbs, along with the state-of-the-art facility at the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. These advances contrast with the very different experiences of amputees from Vietnam. We also report on one local VVA chapter’s mission to provide high-tech bicycles for recently returned veterans. POSTSCRIPT TO LAM SON 719: After reading our article in the November/December 2015 issue about the combined U.S./ARVN offensive into southeastern Laos, former Seabee Dan Bower was moved to write of his experience as the Special Escort for his hometown buddy, Butch Traver, who was killed during the March 1971 operation.
