Treasurer’s Report, March/April 2026 -   -

Leading By Example, Integrity, and True Grit

I was pleased to see that we had a good turnout at the first Board meeting of 2026 in Arlington, Virginia, especially considering the blast of cold weather that hit across the country. As Treasurer, I focused during the meeting on the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget, which was approved by the Board, effective on March 1.

As we move into the new budget year, we will make a robust effort to continue to safeguard our revenue and expenses and provide awareness from all levels of the organization to balance the budget.

The corporation will continue to work to ensure that VVA’s financial footing remains solid, and that all our great programs thrive. We are in communication often with VVA’s financial advisor, accounting director, and development and fundraising director to ensure that funding for our reserve account and internal operations remains feasible in case of any unforeseen catastrophic events.

Vietnam Veterans of America has become an iconic veterans service organization that will live long past our last breaths. We have made a difference in the veterans community, and beyond. We lead by example, integrity, and true grit to get the job done.

VVA staff members will continue to get accolades from me, and I will encourage processes, improvements, and collaboration with their co-workers. In a past column, I suggested that VVA members take time to thank the staff for jobs well done, and not to overlook that silent staff member who sits in the shadows and would welcome a wave of the hand or a smile.

I began working early in February with some of the staff to discuss improvements in educating the Board and VVA members and asserting our due diligence to ensure that we are helpful to new officers and members, as well as incumbents.

Their commitment and awareness make a real impact, and I’m grateful for the way this team consistently steps up with professionalism and care.

Mission Statement: My highest priority and commitment is to ensure that the veterans who served for us will be served by us.
