ROCK IN A HARD PLACE: Contributing writer Colin McGuire explores the special meaning “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” holds for Vietnam War Veterans. The song, released in 1965, over the decades since the war ended has become the unofficial Vietnam War veterans’ anthem. It continues to stir up strong memories and deep emotions among many who served in the war more than 60 years later.  

RISING TO THE CHALLENGE: After more than 40 years, Charles S. Kettles Chapter 310 remains active and mission-focused in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The four-time VVA Chapter of the Year, which was founded in 1985 and renamed after the late Charles Kettles, a longstanding member and Medal of Honor recipient, has more than 220 members, including AVVA associates. Its members are increasingly focused on how to ensure that the chapter’s work and accomplishments will continue in the future.

TACKLING POST-TRAUMATIC GROWTH ON FILM: VVA Veteran Arts Editor offers an in-depth review of "Sheepdog," a hard-hitting new movie written, directed, and starring Steven Grayhm that takes an unflinching look at the psychological aftermath of serving in the Vietnam War and the wars that followed. It centers on a young Army veteran’s emotional problems, and includes the story of his father-in-law, a Vietnam War veteran whose life took a seriously wrong turn after he came home.
