What’s in Store at the Convention in New Orleans

Project Friendship is one of AVVA’s longest-running programs and it proves to be successful every year. Our official kickoff took place during the National Board of Directors meeting in April.

This year’s recipient is Volunteers of America in New Orleans. VOA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides a transitional housing program for homeless veterans and supportive services to low-income veteran families in southeast Louisiana. Please help us with your contribution with a check payable to AVVA with “Project Friendship” noted on the check. You may mail it to the VVA National office or bring it to the National Convention in New Orleans.

We began the search for our national award nominees in January. The winners will be announced during the AVVA Awards Luncheon at the Convention. VISTA volunteer frontrunners will also be announced and recognized for their service at the Luncheon. The recipient does not have to be present to win.

The time to submit bylaws amendments has passed for this year. During our Thursday business session at the Convention, delegates will be deciding whether to accept or reject amendments to the bylaws. Those decisions will determine our governing guidelines for the next two years.

If your state or chapter held an election last year, then you are entitled to send one voting delegate to the Convention. The delegate registration form, including the deadline, is on the AVVA website. It is very important to adhere to this date. No late registrations will be accepted. Remember that a delegate must also register for the Convention. There are two separate forms to be mailed to two different addresses.

With this term coming to an end, AVVA’s National Board will focus on preparing for the Convention. However, we will never lose sight of our Mission and Vision Statements. Our successes will never be determined by one person. Your state and chapter achievements are very important to our success. We will all share in the victories of AVVA’s future.

See you in New Orleans.
