Treasurer’s Report, March/April 2025 -   -

The New Budget

We now have a new budget for FY 2026 which begins on March 1. The budget was developed through a systematic process over several months and was adopted by the VVA Board of Directors in January. The adoption was in line with my recommendations and provides for some critical elements in the transformation of VVA. As I have written on several occasions, the Dues Rebates savings account has run out of funds.

In recognition that all elements of our organization are mutually dependent, the budget provides for $1.5 million in funding for state councils and chapters. The funding, which is for two years, was distributed on March 1 and on March 1, 2026.

The multi-year Supplemental Budget provides state councils and chapters a two-year planning cycle. Chapters in good standing on February 28 will have $6 per member deposited into their accounts. State councils will receive $2 for each member in their state and $8 for every at-large state member.

The Board of Directors approved a Supplemental Budget to set aside $40,000 for a program to celebrate the naming of the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach for former VVA President Tom Corey. An additional $40,000 was approved for the 50th Anniversary Celebration on March 29. We were able to budget this additional expenditure and preserve the financial viability of the corporation.

President Jack McManus determined, and I supported, the budget decision that there would not be a Board of Directors meeting at the Convention in New Orleans. In addition, VVA National is contributing funds to offset the high costs of Convention meal functions. Doing so reduces expenses for every member attending the Convention.

Each chapter and state council officer must ensure that all reports were submitted by February 28. Funds and delegate positions will only go to those in good standing as of that date, with no exceptions.
