New Year: New Objectives

During the December holidays, the AVVA Board took two weeks off to be with family and friends. While we enjoyed this much-needed rest, the officers went back to work in the first week of January, and the Board followed close behind with our first official meeting of 2025.

As of this writing, the Board plans a short virtual meeting in January and then will meet face-to-face in April in Arlington, Virginia, to continue planning for AVVA’s 2025 National Convention in New Orleans. Deadlines for submitting proposed bylaws, amendments, candidate declarations, and delegate registrations are still being determined. You can find all the criteria and important information regarding these deadlines on our website, www.avva.org

AVVA presents three awards of recognition each year designed to acknowledge the work and dedication of individual members. It’s not too early to begin the search for this year’s nominees.

Nominations will be accepted until May 31, so please take the time to nominate a member who went above and beyond for Member of the Year, the Fellowship Award, or the Cathy Keister Spirit of Excellence Award. All recipients will be announced at the Convention, and winners do not have to be present to win. VISTA volunteer frontrunners also will be recognized for their service at the same event.

Each year when AVVA meets, members come together to help another non-profit through the Project Friendship initiative. Typically, we support a charity as close to the local area of the meeting as possible, as AVVA feels it is essential that as a nonprofit, we reach out to help other organizations whose mission touches on ours.

This year’s Project Friendship recipient has been narrowed to two organizations. The announcement of our recipient will take place in April at the Board meeting.

“Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.”
– Sally Koch, Sisters of St. Joseph.
