Region 3 Report

BY SARA McVICKER, DIRECTOR

SARA McVICKER, ©Michael KeatingTennessee has a new chapter in Morristown. Congratulations to Chapter 1073 and its president, Joe Giza. Two more chapters are being formed in Pigeon Forge and Knoxville. As of the December membership report, Region 3 has 11,926 members, making it the second largest region—only 852 behind Region 2.

Now that the holidays are over and we’re into the new year, it’s time to start thinking about several things. First up are your annual reports. Chapter election reports and financial reports are due by July 15, but you don’t have to wait that long. Financial reports may be filed any time after the fiscal year ends on February 28. It’s a good idea to get them done before the chapter elections, especially if you are changing treasurers. And don’t forget that verification of filing with the IRS must be attached. For the election report, make sure everyone is clear on who is doing the report—the incoming or the outgoing secretary or president. Don’t end up in early July wondering if anyone remembered to do it.

The second thing to start thinking about is our National Convention. It will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., with opening ceremonies on Wednesday, August 14. The number of delegates each chapter is entitled to is based on membership figures as of February 28, so get those renewals in. Proposed constitutional amendments and resolutions will be sent out no later than sixty days prior to the start of the Convention, so you will have time to review and discuss them and let your delegates know your opinions. All national officer and director positions are up for election. This is your opportunity to have a say in the leadership and priorities of your organization.

The Region 3 Conference will be held in Annapolis, Md., on April 11-14 at the Doubletree by Hilton. The registration form, hotel information, and program information is posted on the Maryland State Council website (www.vvamaryland.org). An excellent program is planned. We hope you will come and enjoy spring in this historic city.
