A FEW GOOD FRIENDS: This issue we present a dozen or so VVA stories. The people profiled are admirable men and women who have dedicated themselves to working for veterans and their families. At one time the organization was focused on veterans of the Vietnam War era. But with time, experience, and know-how, that mandate has been broadened to encompass both younger and older generations.
BRINGING THE WALL HOME: Queens Chapter 32 helped bring The Moving Wall to Juniper Valley Park this summer where an estimated five thousand people came to honor those who lost their lives. Among the visitors were many who are unable to go to Washington, D.C., to see the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and others who cannot bring themselves to make the trip. [more] CARETAKERS OF THE WALL: In 1995 or ’96, Silver Spring, Maryland, Chapter 641’s Michael Najarian opened a copy of The Washington Post and spotted a photo of young Marines washing The Wall. “Vietnam veterans should be doing that,” he exclaimed to himself.
