The New VVA Tent

The structure for membership dues has changed. Because we are all getting older, the committee felt that it was warranted to add a “72+” category to our membership application. The Board of Directors agreed. Now those joining who are 72 years of age or older will pay $100 for a Life Membership. This change has been added to the online membership application and will be included in the next printing of the membership brochure.

The new VVA tent was set up during the Veterans Day weekend in Washington, D.C. We heard many compliments about its size, logos, flags, and VVA’s Map of Wartime Vietnam printed on the outside wall. I want to thank everyone who worked with us that weekend. Special thanks to Jim Porter, who made the tent set-up happen.

We spoke to potential members from across the nation and gave out countless business cards with state council contact information on them. AVVA was on hand, as well, giving out Agent Orange Awareness pins; Eric Harris helped distribute brochures and Wall books and answered questions. The weather cooperated, and the camaraderie was excellent. Arrangements have been made for professionals to assemble, disassemble, and store the tent.

As for the membership brochure I mentioned this time last year: It remains a work in progress, but we are closer than we have been. The final draft is ready for the committee to accept and then present to the Board of Directors for approval in January. If all goes as planned, by the time you read this article we should be at the printer.

The Membership Affairs Committee, led by Vice Chair Steve Mackey, is reviewing two resolutions that will come before the delegates to the 2013 National Convention.
