26th Annual POW/MIA Watch Fire

BY HERB WORTHINGTON, DIRECTOR

Under a full moon on September 16, Finger Lakes (New York) Chapter 377 held its 26th Watch Fire on the beach of Myers Point Park in Lansing. The fire was dedicated to Marine Corps Pvt. Frank Penna from Canastota, N.Y., who has been missing for seventy years since the Battle of Tarawa in the Pacific. The keynote speaker was U.S. Army Sgt. Darrin Colwell of the Southern Tier Recruiting Co.

Lowe’s Lumber, Advance Moving, and chapter members and friends supplied the wood. The huge stack measured sixty-five feet long and forty feet wide. There were also close to five thousand flags to be retired.

The event benefited from the work of Mike Moran, Chris Jones, Ron Pluck, Art Denman, Dan Rose, Larry Housel, Gary Napieracz, Harvey Baker, Ray Miller, and Barbara Reynolds.
