Survivor Benefits Pamphlet

BY NANCY SWITZER, AVVA PRESIDENT

NANCY SWITZER, AVVA PRESIDENT, ©Michael KeatingWe are pleased to announce that we now have a pamphlet on survivor benefits. It is a great way to educate our membership on Service-Connected Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), as well as non-service-connected survivor’s pensions and burial benefits. The pamphlet explains what dependents are entitled to when their veteran spouse or parent dies. It is a wonderful membership tool and will be posted on our website. If you are interested in getting copies, please email me at nswitzer@avva.org and I will get them right out to you. This also will be part of our Paper Safe.

AVVA/VVA PROJECT FRIENDSHIP

It is with great pleasure that we have chosen Allied Veterans Center in Jacksonville, Florida, as this year’s Project Friendship, our AVVA and VVA community service project that takes place at every Convention and Leadership Conference. It’s a way of giving back to the communities that we visit. We have raised awareness for the projects while highlighting how great our organizations are.

Allied Veterans Center is a nonprofit, transitional home for veterans in need that offers a coordinated passport-to-independence program. The Center provides transitional housing, career counseling, education advancement, VA benefit analysis, physical and psychological assessment, case management, and reintegration assistance. It has sixty-five rooms with TVs, beds, and all the other comforts of home. The Center is requesting monetary donations for roof repair, laptops for veterans attending classes, and a transportation van.

Please make checks payable to Allied Veterans Center. You can bring your donation with you to Jacksonville or mail it to the National Office, attention Project Friendship, Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America. We appreciate all who participate. Working together, we can make a difference in the lives of veterans and their families.
